19th Ji.hlava International
Documentary Film Festival

October 27 – November 1, 2015

Jihlava was lit up with eternal flames, burning in front of each of the festival venues. Festival screenings took place in seven locations and were extended also to the nearby town of Třešť (read trzeshti). Godfrey Reggio, Franz Kafka and Woody Vasulka stood behind the festival's trailer featuring an educated ape. Inspiration Forum’s guests Julian Assange, Masha Alyokhina and Osama Abdul Mohsen inspired heated debates inside and outside of cinemas. Festival visitors experienced an eye-opening retrospective of the French avant-gardist Eugène Deslaw, and the juror Viktor Kossakovsky gave an award to the Spanish-French co-production Dead Slow Ahead. The first edition of the Conference Fascinations focused on experimental film distribution and its participants called for next edition. Artavazd Peleshyan received the Contribution to World Cinema Award. For the first time ever, the jury of the Czech Joy section decided not to give an award for the best Czech documentary. In the morning, Jihlava was covered in fog.
