Film Submissions

Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival is a celebration of creative documentary film and the largest event of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe.

The submissions for the next 22nd Ji.hlava IDFF 2018
will be opened on February 15, 2018.


Competition sections of Ji.hlava IDFF:

  • Opus Bonum / International competition

  • Between the Seas / Central and Eastern European documentary competition

  • Czech Joy / Czech competition

  • First Lights / competition for fresh filmmakers, whose documentary debuts feature films will be included in the competition section Opus Bonum, Between the Seas or Czech Joy.

  • Fascinations / international competition for experimental documentary films

  • Fascinations: / Czech competition for experimental documentary films

  • Short Joy / a competition of short documentary films up to 30 minutes of running time

  • Testimony on Politics, Nature, Knowledge / three new competition sections screening most important political, environmental and scientific documentaries


Submission conditions in 2018

  • Deadline for films produced in 2017: March 31, 2018.
    Please note that regarding films produced in 2017, we only accept works that were finished between September and December 2017. As for films produced earlier, only those are eligible for submission that have not been made and premiered in Europe.
  • Deadline for films produced in 2018: May 31, 2018.
  • You can also submit a rough cut of your film by July 31, 2018.

We also consider animated documentaries, online documentary projects or any of the cross-genre TV formats (docudrama, docusoap, reality show or mockumentary, virtual reality). The length of the film is not important, we accept submissions of both feature and short-length documentaries.
