Film Submissions

Ji.hlava IDFF has been chosen by the European Film Academy (EFA) as one of the European documentary festivals to pre-select films for the European Award for the Best Documentary Film of the Year. Each of the festivals nominates one film directed by a European director and released in world premiere directly to EFA’s pre-selection. EFA considers all other world premieres of European films and may add them to the pre-selection.

Also, winners of the Short Joy award will be eligible for the pre-selection in the Documentary Short Subject category of the Academy Awards®.

The Ji.hlava Film Fund provides in-kind grants for visual and sound post-production of mid-length or feature-length documentary and hybrid films at the stage of production or post-production originating in Central and Eastern Europe.

  • Deadline for films produced in 2016: April 30, 2017.

Please note that regarding films produced in 2016, we only accept works that were finished between September and December 2016. As for films produced earlier, only those are eligible for submission that have not been made and premiered in Europe.

  • Deadline for films produced in 2017: June 30, 2017.

  • You can also submit a rough cut of your film by July 31, 2017.
