Echoes of Ji.hlava in Vienna

The Echoes of Ji.hlava IDFF are back in Vienna! The first of the three films included in the retrospective of the best of the last edition of the Ji.hlava IDFF is Stingl – Little Big Okima. The second film presented at the Czech Centre will be A New Shift by Jindřich Andrš that follows a laid-off miner from the city of Ostrava who lands a job as a programmer. This time-lapse portrait captures a long and difficult journey, the development of a man who was displaced from his job but sees this as an opportunity for a fresh start. The Echoes of Ji.hlava IDFF will be topped off with a documentary by Slovak director Zuzana Piussi called Ordeal that won a special jury prize at the festival. Ordeal provides an insight into the Slovak judiciary system shaken by scandals, and yet filled with hope for reform after a new government takes office. The film visits the offices of constitutional judges as well as court cases of ordinary people. What has changed in Slovakia over the two years of the filming of the documentary?
