original title: The Spirit of '45
country: United Kingdom
year: 2012
running time: 98 min.
synopsis
The end of World War II represented an epochal turning point in the political and economic history of Great Britain. Using archival footage, witnesses to historical events, and citations from old documents, world-renowned engaged filmmaker Ken Loach presents the unique path taken by Britain’s sober socialism.
Among other things, the film is a fulfilment of the request voiced by one of the interviewees towards the end of the film: “The older generation has got an absolute duty to come forward and join with young people and start talking about what was the vision in 1945.”
