Pillar

director: Sigurður Guðjónsson
original title: Pillar
country: Iceland
year: 2013
running time: 10 min.

synopsis

A static view of the swelling sea surface and a concrete pillar looming in the distance on the horizon. The permanence of the concrete dominant is in stark contrast with the dynamic movement of the water mass.

biography

Icelandic visual artist Sigurður Guðjónsson (1975) studied Fine Arts in Reykjavík, Vienna and Copenhagen. Since 2002, he has held several solo exhibitions on Iceland and his works have also been presented internationally and are included in collections of several galleries. Guðjónsson’s films are stimulating experiences which use repetition and rhythm to express raw nature in a dark yet ruminative way. By incorporating minimalistic soundscapes alongside his films, Guðjónsson creates a complementary environment for his exhibitions which deliver both a visual and auditory experience.
