synopsis

An essay focusing on the topic of the exploitation of natural resources has as its primary theme water, showing its forms and changes in the chain of industry. The deep soundtrack is as dark as dirty water leaking from a power plant and, together with images of industry, evokes a sense of ecological anxiety.

Life in Patterns
Domlátil’s short animated film shows the daily rhythms of life at a speed of twelve frames per second. He works with real objects that we use in our regular lives or that we pass by without noticing them. Working with the textures, patterns and symbols he finds on them, he creates a visual continuity.

Delimitation
A young woman searches for a new apartment in a busy city. The film tests the possibilities of film language by placing more emphasis on the interplay of sound and movement than on classical character dialogue, and instead of traditional narration, it combines stylized movements with expressive dance that suddenly interrupts the flow of the story at certain moments.   “What fascinates me is the space itself and our ability to discover ourselves through it, in particular that exact place we can call our home. The space we are surrounded by creates a constant dialogue with our own identity.” T. Vejvodová

Dream I Had / Virgin Fields
A passing landscape projected into a hypnotic pulsating structure explores time perception in relation to motion. The iridescent chain of trunks, branches and leaves zooming past creates counterpoint to the cyclically re-emerging ambient soundscape interspersed with beats by Evitceles, a Bulgarian experimental musician.

A Place
WIPP is a nuclear waste repository located in USA. Two teams of artists and scientists were called up in nineties of last century to answer a lot of questions which suddenly raised on the horizon. How to comunicate with next generations? How to explain to them what is stored beneath the ground in order to stop them digging further? How to pass the message through at least ten thousand years? The result of this think-tank are three reports which are the core of this movie.   “Building the Anticity as a heritage (a crazy version of the UNESCO heritage), our folly and dazzle caused by nuclear energy.” T. Exhausted Sun
A mysterious cinematic poem about remembering a long-lost summer afternoon. Disturbing abstract details of natural elements permeate the metaphor of a children's game, passing in a contemplative vision of the spiritual essence of light and darkness, in which opposites eventually dissolve into units of primal matter.

Powerless Source of All Power
This journey in a static shot from Lubomír Lipský's Cirkus je cirkus (Circus Is Circus) explores the relationship between memory and visual history. A fragment from the visual database of the collective memory is accompanied by excerpts from an essay by Karel Kosík on the inability of Czechs to affect real politics through democratic elections.

Edible Water Bottles
What if in one of the possible versions of the future, is was not only material objects that were scarce commodities - but also water. The film examines a situation in which water becomes a luxury commodity and gradually awakens in us the fear of its possible shortage, one which could take place in the near future. The emotional aspects of the film are underscored by the melancholic music of Never Sol. “The video Edible Water Bottles speaks using current advertising language, which points to its utter emptiness.” A. Horová

About Me
In this short film, animated natural objects express the artist’s inner world: an unending search for new ways to do projects, searching for hidden meanings, and overcoming the fear of experimentation. The film’s central motif is, however, synesthesia as experienced through the fusion of physical sensory perceptions.

Anomaly
A metacommentary movie about a movie, in which the director and the cameraman are filming a report about the extinction of butterflies and ecosystem collapse, while in the editing room they polemise about ways to communicate clearly and comment on their dramaturgical decisions, as well as express frustration with the difficulty of reaching a modern audience with more complex communication.

To Be Framed
Recent history dies out in the overgrown landscape of a former German military base where children are playing. Through performances by young protagonists and disturbing commentary that suggests that the innocence of the images isn’t what it appears to be, the film reflects on the phenomenon of violence and encourages us to learn from the past.
