Antarctica: All or Nothing (Petr Jan Juračka & Kateřina Kopalová)

A lottery win? A gamble? Or the jackpot of a lifetime? What began with a working coffee at the Faculty of Science gradually turned into an adventure of a lifetime, the likes of which has never been seen before. Our natural science expedition to Antarctica with the Argentine army got off to a magnificent start. Flying over the Southern Ocean in the world's largest military aircraft, as well as acrobatic flying in combat helicopters just a meter above the ice floes...

All this was just the beginning of our journey to see penguins, seals, sea lions, but mainly diatoms, which can inhabit even the most extreme places on our planet, such as the seventh continent. But as soon as we took the last sample needed to complete the mosaic of our story of microbial life at the foot of the glaciers, something happened that we never dared to hope for.
