ČRo Wave: Podhoubí – Prokop Pithart, Ondřej Šebestík
Ondřej Šebestík has returned from a several-month journey through British Columbia, where he set out to see the world through the eyes of the Tla-o-qui-aht and Haida peoples of the North Pacific.
The traditional teachings, art and rituals of the First Nations of North America allow for fluid transitions between tree, animal, human, ocean and rock. The boundaries between beings are more permeable, and unlike in scientific and technological societies, these peoples do not see humans as separate from the living cosmos as a whole.
Who are the salmon people or the eagle people? How does science confirm that a forest is more like a single living being than a collection of trees? Why do First Nations have no concept of wilderness?
