The Geography of Opportunity: How Much Does Our Postcode Determine Our Lives?
How much do our prospects in life depend on where we are born and where we live? In the Czech Republic, access to education, work, housing and public services varies significantly from one region to another. But it is not only about geography: the map of opportunity is also shaped by political decisions, investment and institutions that accumulate over time. Why can some places offer people better living conditions than others? What can we change so that where we live no longer determines our prospects so strongly? And how can we change the map of opportunity without simply asking people to move elsewhere?
