A documentary portrait of one of the last surviving filmmakers of the Czechoslovak New Wave: director Hynek Bočan, whose work includes the films Čest a sláva, Pasťák and S čerty nejsou žerty, as well as the television series Záhada hlavolamu and Zdivočelá země. Hynek Bočan, the last surviving representative of the Czechoslovak New Wave, looks back on his life and filmmaking career. Through his films, previously unpublished personal diaries, new interviews and rare material from his private archive, the documentary reveals a director who has remained true to his own vision of cinema and the world throughout his life. An intimate portrait of an exceptional filmmaker and one of the last direct links to the Czechoslovak New Wave generation.

biography

Petr Smělík (born 1985) graduated from Zlín Film School. As an editor, he has worked on numerous documentaries, television programmes and fiction films. His award-winning projects include the puppet animation Tokio Brothers, the documentary Přízrak svobody II and the series Uzamčený svět, which won the Czech Joy Award at the 2018 Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival. He made his directorial debut with the medium-length documentary Rok na dědině.
