As Czech beer brands are being sold off to foreign breweries, homebrewers are bubbling up behind Czech garage doors. This mosaic of the stories of golden brew lovers transforms into a metaphor for the search for Czech identity amidst the globalisation of everything. As a symbol of freedom and national self-determination, in Látal’s documentary beer experiences its renaissance.
biography
Jan Látal graduated from the Literary Academy and studied at the Department of Documentary Film at FAMU. He has directed a number of documentaries with political themes, the best known of which, Paroubek with a Thousand Faces (Paroubkové, 2011), discusses the origins of the negative image of Czech politics.more about film
