El Perro Negro: Stories from the Spanish Civil War

Péter Forgács / Netherlands, France, Sweden, Finland / 2005 / 84 min.

synopsis

Péter Forgács uses found footage to create a collage of previously unseen amateur films that break down the usual way of looking at grand historical events. In this unique footage, the life of Catalan industrialist Joan Salvans Piero intersects with that of a middle-class student from Madrid, Ernesto Díaz Noriega.

biography

In the 1980s, independent Hungarian filmmaker Péter Forgács (1950) established an amateur film archive. He attracted international attention with his series of compilation documentaries, Private Hungary (1988–2002). Four of his films have been shown at the Jihlava IDFF.
