Francofonia
Alexander Sokurov / France, Germany, Netherlands / 2015 / Czech Premiere / 87 min.
synopsis
When Russian director Alexander Sokurov received permission to shoot at the Louvre, he was given the chance to follow up on his famous film from the Hermitage, Russian Ark (2002). In terms of form, however, Francofonia is the opposite of its predecessor, a multilayered monologic film essay that looks primarily at the role of museums during war.
biography
In addition to fiction films, Alexander Nikolayevich Sokurov (1951) has also shot numerous subjective, essayistic, and formally radical documentaries. His best known works include a loose series of homages to famous and not so famous individuals.
