The Miners’ Hymns

The Miners’ Hymns

Bill Morrison / United States / 2011 / Central European Premiere / 52 min.

synopsis

This documentary is a compilation of archival footage shot over the course of 100 years of mining work in the Durham coal basin in the UK.  This celebration of the mining profession chronicles the history of the area from its beginnings through its peak and the mining crisis, to its finale in the 1980s, when department stores were built over the original mines.

“The film is a timely reminder of choices that were made a generation ago regarding the role of labor in a corporate-based economy – the repercussions of which are being felt today.“ Bill Morrison
