synopsis
This film essay about mushrooms and their connections to other living things tries to use the structure of mushrooms to explain nature, science, and civilization, all the while searching for various analogies, such as the similarities between mycorrhiza and other structures. From a discussion of biology, the film moves to an exploration of philosophical questions, although the viewer’s attention is also attracted to the captivating and loose handheld camera.
biography
Vít Janeček (1970) is a documentary filmmaker and theorist interested in the relationship between art and science. He publishes in Cinepur and Literární Noviny. His film Ivetka and the Mountain won the main prize in the Czech Joy section at the 2008 Jihlava IDFF.
