synopsis

A folkloric study of the Prácheňsko Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances, based in Strakonice and headed by local teacher Josef Režný, a passionate collector of oral tradition and folk songs. The film shows the region’s cultural significance as the land of the Strakonice bagpipers and the birthplace of František Ladislav Čelakovský.

biography

Director Ladislav Rychman is known more for his connection to musical films, crime movies, and comedies, but in the 1950s he began as an employee of the Studio for Popular-Scientific and Instructional Films, where he shot numerous short films on local art and culture.
