synopsis

They gradually climbed to positions of influence and amassed vast fortunes on the backs of politicians. They pushed those politicians into the spotlight while keeping themselves out of sight, free to pursue their business dealings undisturbed—especially those involving the state. Political godfathers have become emblematic of the past 25 years. Their influence over the make-up of governments, the shaping of laws and the allocation of public funds has fuelled widespread disillusionment with politics.

biography

A director, screenwriter, dramaturg and journalist, he was born in 1980 and studied sociology, social policy and social work at the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, followed by documentary filmmaking at FAMU. He focuses primarily on directing documentaries and regularly collaborates with Czech Television as a director and screenwriter. His films have screened at festivals worldwide, including in China, Brazil, Israel, Spain, Canada, Germany, Uruguay, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and many other countries. He has also worked as a film editor and critic, editor-in-chief of the magazine Nový Prostor, video reporter for the weekly Respekt, a sociologist in the non-profit sector and an analyst at the Research Institute for Labour and Social Affairs.
