synopsis

A determined man in his fifties has two passions in life: fast cars and his high-school sweetheart Jitka, who helped him rekindle his hope and desire to move on after a messy marriage. Jitka, the oldest autocross driver in the Czech Republic, would be hard-pressed to find a better mechanic and coach than Jaroslav. He constantly builds her racing cars out of clunkers, and together they hope for a big victory. But the motorsport championships serve as just a backdrop to the real “race of life,” in which both of them haven’t done so hot. The frustrations and disillusionment of the past can thus take a surprising turn. Director Miro Remo has devised a brilliant story of a seemingly match made in heaven, set along the Moravian-Slovak border and packed with more than enough drama and humor.

biography

Miro Remo studied documentary film directing at the Academy of Performing Arts. During his studies, he made the short film Arsy-Versy, which won over 30 awards at various international film festivals and became one of the school's most successful films of all time. In 2014, he completed his feature-length debut Comeback, which captures the new life start of two men whose prospects for the future were put on hold by a long prison sentence. The film is noted for being shown in the competition section at KVIFF. In his satirical documentary Cooltúra (2016), Remo observed the meaning and state of Slovak popular culture. His next documentary, Richard Müller: Unknown (2016), received the Czech Film Critics Award and was shortlisted for the Sun in a Net Award for Best Documentary. He is also involved in medium-length works for television (Vrbovian Wind/ Vrbovský veter, Pohoda, etc.).
