People and Frankfurters

Pavel Blumenfeld / Czechoslovakia / 1948 / 12 min.

synopsis

Pavel Blumenfeld’s cinematic feuilleton is set in Prague’s automat restaurants, buffets, and cheap canteens. A commentary on local dietary habits, it depicts both lunchtime rushes and quiet afternoon moments. The footage of restaurant regulars is combined with acted scenes and the director’s mediation on the search for the film’s subject matter.

biography

Director Pavel Blumenfeld spent the postwar years primarily shooting reportages and feuilletons. He also worked as a dubbing director and shot numerous fiction films for Czechoslovak Television, primarily stories about young people such as Crossroads (1959) and People Like You (1960).
