Copper Mines at Bingham, Utah

Copper Mines at Bingham, Utah

United States / 1912 / 1 min.

synopsis

This surviving fragment moves through the mining town of Bingham on the steep slopes of a canyon in Utah. The camera records houses, residents and a landscape reshaped by copper, gold and silver mining. This promotional view of the industrial West now preserves the image of a settlement that is subsequently swallowed up by a vast open-pit mine.

biography

Thomas A. Edison, Inc. was among the most influential enterprises in early American cinema. Alongside fiction films, it produced news reels, industrial films and travelogues. Its output combined the technological appeal of the new medium with a portrait of modern America, its labour and infrastructure.
