synopsis
In 1924, the Soviet government, together with JOINT, offered Jews, who were forbidden from doing business at that time, land on the territory of Ukraine, Belarus, and Crimea. In 1927, James H. Becker, Bill Morrison’s grandfather, documented the settlers’ new lives. His observational footage brings a little-known chapter in history back to life.
“By 1938, more than 250,000 Soviet Jews would settle in 215 colonies, across 2.5 million acres of land. This is a story of their journey back to the soil.“ Bill Morrison
