The Unknowing of Things
Aristotelis Maragkos / Greece, United Kingdom / 2026 / World Premiere / 4 min.
synopsis
A visual maelstrom condenses documents from the General State Archives of Greece, revealing that meaning unfolds between them. In a stroboscopic animation of thousands of maps, yearbook portraits, official records, photographs and newspaper pages, time contracts and expands, taking shape through rhythm and interventions in the materials themselves. As soon as the flow stops, an agnosia of the gathered things creeps in: the image fades, or a scar appears within it – a mark of absence.“By animating these documents, I wanted to release the small movements hidden inside them: the pressure of handwriting, the erosion of paper, the ghosts of administrative language. Archives preserve, but they also destroy.” — Aristotelis Maragkos
