synopsis
The title of this documentary is a reference to the first chapter in Frantz Fanon’s
The Wretched of the Earth, which defended the rights of the colonized Africans. The sometimes shocking found footage from the French-Algerian war is accompanied by commentary by American singer Lauryn Hill, reading passages from Fanon’s book that have lost none of their currency. The film has been honored at numerous festivals, including the 64th Berlinale.
