synopsis

Specks of dust and blemishes on the surface of black-and-white 16mm film blossom into crystals and fantastical flowers. A diffusion model has dissolved travel footage into noise, computing shapes of its own to fill in what was lost; the original image glimmers through layers of physical and digital growth. A landscape is born from image fragments and clinging dust.

biography

Nan Wang (1968) is a Chinese experimental filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Rotterdam. She creates poetic, abstract films that explore themes of identity, technology and social interaction. Her works include Inner Noise (2013) and Echoes between Seeing (2025). The Ji.hlava IDFF screened her film Liquid Landscape (2018).
