An algorithmic composition of 531,441 photographs taken over the course of three decades since 1985 place personal and societal events into various contexts to create a minimalist study of informational value, comprehensibility and memory of events.

biography

German-born Dutch filmmaker Thomas Mohr (1954) likes to invent new ways of generating images. Since 1985 he has put together a photographic archive of 300,000 images. For his films, he uses computer algorithms to arrange photographs into geometric compositions in order to explore the endurance of memories and the function of memory during the digital media age. The Ji.hlava IDFF previously showed his films Gedankenstrich(e) (2014) and Impact-9.2 (2016).
