synopsis
This material experiment and a film avant-garde classic uses both physical and chemical interferences with the film stock, creating a parallel between the shown (human) body and the (celluloid) body of the 8-mm film in the situation of a single-occupied hotel room.
biography
Stan Brakhage (1993-2003) was a renowned American avant-gardist of the 1960s whose films are characteristic for his artistic deployment of emulsions, both hand-painted and deformed in various physical and chemical ways. In his “moving visual thoughts,” he focused mainly on the topics of birth, sexuality and corporeality. The Ji.hlava IDFF has presented two of his films so far:
Fire of Waters (2015) and
Dog Star Man (2017).
