The Death of Mr. Lazarescu
Cristi Puiu / Romania / 2005 / 148 min.
synopsis
It was supposed to be just another run-of-the-mill evening for Mr. Lazarescu, but his sudden nausea would soon lead to the beginning of a tragicomic odyssey. This road movie, characterized by its immediate realistic form, takes a bitter look at a socially unwelcoming health care system that both steps and falls on people burdened by all the bureaucracy. The director managed to blur the lines between the real world and the fictional world with his distinctive approach, while the documentary’s handheld camera enhances this feeling and completes the already functional concept of working with an actor. The film remarkably captured the state of society at the time, which was strikingly similar to the novels of Franz Kafka.more about film
