Each year, more new patients waiting for organ transplants undergo a humiliating trial: They are judged according to age, chances of recovery, habits, and lifestyle. In 2007, the Dutch television programme The Great Donor Show turned this process into a reality show in which a dying woman chooses which of the ill candidates will receive her kidney. The surprising conclusion reveals that the true aim of this controversial programme was more than to just shock.
