synopsis

In a documentary by Juraj Herz, President Václav Havel talks to Oscar Award-winning actor Maximilian Schell about his vision for the new millennium. The actor and politician were also connected by the fact that Schell had read Havel's thank-you speech on the occasion of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in Frankfurt in October 1989.

biography

Juraj Herz (1934-2018) is a legend in Czechoslovak cinematography. He made his debut as an independent director in 1965 with the medium-length film, The Junk Shop, which was based on a short story by Bohumil Hrabal. His directorial work covers a number of topics, but he is famous for his impressive cultivation of literary works. Among his best-known works include The Cremator (1968) and Oil Lamps (1971).
