All Vows
Bill Morrison / United States / 2014 / East European Premiere / 10 min.
synopsis
The Kol Nidre incantation, spoken on the eve of Yom Kippur, is a meditation and plea for the annulment of all inadvertently made and broken vows. Archival footage from silent films and a minimalist musical performance by cellist Maya Beiser reflect the prayer and suggest an unknowable future.
“The words of the prayer are meant for no one other than the person who utters them, but the melody of the prayer is aimed at everyone—the words divide, and the music unites.“ Maya Beiser
