synopsis

The documentary offers a sensitive look at the everyday lives of people experiencing homelessness and challenges entrenched stereotypes that reduce homelessness to personal failure. Is it really true that “all it takes is willingness and hard work”? Do people end up living under bridges through their own fault? By bringing two worlds into direct confrontation—people experiencing homelessness and local government—the film reveals a fundamental gap between political rhetoric and the actual availability of social support. It explores the deeper causes of social exclusion and asks how systemic failings in housing, social policy and public policy contribute to it. Are political leaders addressing the heart of the problem? And do we realise how easy it is to fall through the cracks, and how difficult it is to find a way back? These uncomfortable questions challenge us to reconsider assumptions we often take for granted. The film opens an important debate about our collective responsibility and about who remains unable to access help, and why.

biography

Tomáš Hlaváček studied philosophy and media studies at Masaryk University in Brno, followed by documentary filmmaking at FAMU. He works as an independent documentary filmmaker, focusing on critical explorations of contemporary sociopolitical and sociocultural issues. Through an engaged observational approach, his documentaries delve into the worlds of ethnic minorities and social subcultures.
