Birth of a Nation
Daya Cahen / Netherlands / 2010 / Czech Premiere / 11 min.
synopsis
FilmWOMAN-HOMELAND presents, on parallel images on one screen, life at a Moscow girls’ cadet school. The film, which experiments with multiple messages, offers a suggestive view of life at a military boarding school where girls as young as eleven learn to cook, sing, and shoot weapons. It also holds a mirror up to contemporary Russia, in which the army offers a sense of connection with the myth of a heroic past.
