Founded in 2001, DocPoint is one of the largest documentary festivals in the Nordic countries. In Finland, it is the only festival solely dedicated to nonfiction films. Once a year it brings more than a hundred of the best and most talked-about creative documentary films from all over the world and Finland to the screens of Helsinki. The films in DocPoint’s international selections are Finnish premieres. They range from festival hits to experimental gems for smaller audiences. DocPoint has no open call for international films, the selection is curated by the Head of Programming and by invitation only.

Shaima Al Tamimi

Shaima Al-Tamimi is a Yemeni-East African visual storyteller, photographer and filmmaker based in Qatar. Her work is inspired by social issues reflective of her lived experiences, drawing on themes of migration, healing and sociocultural issues within her environment. She is currently in production of her upcoming first feature film titled "The Myth of Mahmood" with Mayar Hamdan. In 2020 Al-Tamimi was a Photography and Social Justice Fellow at the Magnum Foundation,where she developed her multimedia film Don’t Get Too Comfortable (2021), which was nominated for the Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film at the Venice International Film Festival. The film screened at over 38 film festivals around the world and was showcased at Bottega Veneta Square Majlis, a custom built space for the film.

Filmmaker, woman and Latin American Her first short film, Broken Sky, was selected in eight international festivals in Colombia, Cuba, Mexico and the Czech Republic. Her experience as a filmmaker has been mainly focused on research on Colombian traditional music, armed conflict and human rights. She is currently working on her first feature documentary Leaf Remnants, a film that seeks to explore the family archives, she inherited that show a broad spectrum of Colombia's environmental wealth and the armed conflict between the Colombian State and the ELN, Colombia's oldest active guerrilla group. She works at the Cinemateca in Bogotá.

Alekos Alexiadis

Alekos Alexiadis, an independent filmmaker from Athens, Greece, was born in 1989. He's the creator of several notable works, including Starry Night (2017), Expropriator (2017), Rifts (2021), The Hospital Trilogy & Hereafter (2021), La Sera Di Feffe (2022), Holding Cell (2022), Hot Day Afternoon (2023), From Oregon To The Stars (2023), A Climate Diary (2023) and Terrace, Athens (2017 - 2023). Alekos has dedicated his life to producing essay documentaries that explore the dynamic synergy of urban life, art history, and critical theory, shedding new light on these intersections. His unwavering dedication is to elevating cinema into an epistemological art form and a vehicle for new knowledge. Constantly armed with a camera, Alekos captures the world around him, creating a continuous visual narrative of his experiences and observations.

Stephanie is a filmmaker currently based in Los Angeles. Her films often explore anti-imperialism, survival and zombie late capitalism. She’s currently developing her first feature film, Women Walk Home, about a hidden women’s anti-occupation movement in Cyprus.
