How does a photographer get into the immediate proximity of famous actors, directors and public figures – and what happens once the doors of the film set close behind them?
Over the years, Jiří Linhart has photographed personalities such as Vincent Cassel and Terence Hill, and has worked on projects connected with filmmakers including Guy Ritchie. This lecture will offer a personal insight into the backstage world of film production, featuring numerous stories and experiences about how to capture authentic moments in an environment where everything is, at the same time, highly controlled.
How can a photographer remain an observer and documentarian while creating images with the aesthetics of film or commercial photography? Where does documentary photography end and stylisation begin? And to what extent is the final image shaped by the photographer’s relationship with the person in front of the lens?
The lecture will also explore the changing landscape of photography and post-production in the age of artificial intelligence – from the current use of AI tools to the question of how the role of the photographer and visual author may evolve in the coming years.
