Deliberation for Democracy – Keynote speech and discussion on how to strengthen democracy through communities
Over the last few decades, governments have been reaping the benefits of citizens' assemblies - a democratic model that has its roots in ancient Athens and has proven its functionality in the modern context. Proponents* of this model promise it will be more effective in resolving contemporary crises, overcoming the problem of political alienation and strengthening social cohesion. Can citizens' assemblies be an effective response to the crisis of democracy? How do these new democratic institutions work? And how can they strengthen democracy in Central Eastern Europe?
