synopsis

Hylo-Vision-Plus eye drops, which cover the surface of the eye with a liquid film, inspired Dietmar Brehm to make the film of the same name, which is a minimalist study of ecstatic moments. In Version 2, the black-and-white negative of faces and bodies is cloaked in lilac hues whose luminosity is enhanced by a hypnotic flicker effect.

biography

Dietmar Brehm (1947) is a representative of the third Austrian avant-garde and professor emeritus at the University of Linz. In the 1960s, he worked in drawing and graphic arts, and later in painting. Since 1974, he has been making films, first working with the Super 8mm format, then 16mm, and since 2006 he has also been making videos. In 2020, he was awarded the Alfred Kubin Prize for his lifetime achievement. Ji.hlava IDFF has been showing his films since its third year (1999), most recently Tokyo (2014).
