26th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival
director: Artur Magrot
original title: Global Illumination
country: Czech Republic
running time: 5 min.
synopsisDuring the coronavirus pandemic, our homes were transformed into an experimental space. In the same way, an art studio becomes a mind laboratory, where the artist forms and deforms materials into abstract crystal-like shapes and amorphic structures. Margot named his thesis after the algorithm standing behind the realistic lighting of the 3D space in the gaming platform Unreal Engine 4 that he worked with.
“Even though there are common references to virtuality and spaces of an invisible architecture, which are an environment that we can experience only through technological tools, I am always influenced by public space in my work; its specific, deterministic creation, layers and density, signs of recognition and communication.”
biographyArtur Magrot (1985) studied at the Studio of Intermedia Work II at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague. He focuses on the topics of territory – sharing, defining, defending, transgressing, and disrespecting of a territory. He is a co-founder of the experimental project Ukradená galerie. His film Canis Lupus (2019) was screened at Ji.hlava IDFF.
