Zamboanga holds a firm place in the country’s history because it kick-started the emergence of the country’s film industry. It is also one of five surviving films made before World War II.
biography
Eduardo de Castro (1907–1955), whose real name is Marvin Edward Gardner, was a Filipino actor and filmmaker with American roots. He became famous for directing
Zamboanga (1937). His acting career began during the silent film era. He was captured by the Japanese during World War II. Work on his last film,
Mascara, was ended by his death.
