Coal & Cossacks
A festive parade of Cossacks, solid in their pride, flows down the street in slow motion just as the coal flows down the conveyer belt. In all its massive and monstrous beauty, the giant steel mining equipment represents strength and security just as the Cossack army under God’s protection. A group of Cossacks, priests and boys halts before a church. Sabres touch the children’s shoulders and the boy is kissed. He wipes his lips with a handkerchief. A small festive moment, like when the coal is transported to the harbour.

Cockpit
An observational documentary follows cockfighting on the Indonesian island of Bali. It creates a scathing denunciation of senseless violence against animals, fed by a betting frenzy. It does so not by depicting the fights themselves, but rather primarily through rapid cuts between gestures, movements, and facial expressions of the enthusiastic onlookers.DETAIL:It’s over, the cockfight is over. While punters in the audience exchange and count their money, the injured cock still lies in the ring, unable to fly.

Return to Adriaport
In 1975, Czech professor of economics Karel Žlábek, in collaboration with engineers from Pragoprojekt, designed and calculated the shortest route for linking Czechoslovakia with the Adriatic Sea via a tunnel. The plan called for spoilage from the tunnel – which would have led beneath the territories of Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Slovenia – to be used to construct an artificial island in the Adriatic Sea. The island, which was to be called Adriaport, would have belonged to Czechoslovakia. This scripted documentary tells the story of professor Žlábek's meeting with President Gustáv Husák in order to convince him of his vision.

Cod Liver Oil and Cream Caramels
We enter a dilapidated boarding school through an open, broken window. Blotches on the pure snowy landscape. Visually refined footage of decay is accompanied by the reminiscences of the now-adult children who came here as seven-year-olds. Some of them would prefer to forget what others see as the best years of their lives. Children who cannot be seen. The giggling of children’s voices carries through the run-down rooms. A boy and a girl. They exchange new words. Someone is coming, but does not enter. The door opens on its own. Behind the building shimmer the Northern Lights.

Beatle Jew
The film is a journey in search of personal identity. It reveals a history stretching from Spain all the way to the Czech village of Batelov, whose Wild West heroes have found eternal rest at the local Jewish cemetery. The film was selected for the closure of XV Festival de Cinema Jueu de Barcelona and screened at the XVII Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival. No-one kneads us again out of earth and clay, no one conjures our dust. No-one. Praised be your name, No-one. For your sake we shall flower. Towards you. A Nothing we were, are, shall remain, flowering: the Nothing-, the No-one’s-rose.

Mum, I'm Sorry
The only things they left behind were their personal belongings. They speak volumes about what kind of people they were. What they liked. Who was close to them. What hobbies they had. A film without words. Footage of objects belonging to people who drowned in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the island of Lampedusa in 2013 and 2015 - people whose lives were extinguished for good.

Clean Hands
A grassy area fills with arriving cars. The passengers are given bread and wine and a programme for the religious service. All they have to do is tune in their radio to the right station, and the Sunday service begins. In Daytona Beach, Florida, the concept of drive-in theatres has been adapted for an unusual purpose. DeFilippo’s observational documentary takes a look at this modern church.
