Litanie

director: Tomáš Mašín, Elen Řádová
original title: Litanie
country: Czech Republic
year: 1992
running time: 5 min.

synopsis

Elen Řádová and Tomáš Mašín’s student work draws on the genre of action films, which are characterized by emotionally intense and violent scenes. Excerpts from period blockbusters are supplemented with visual effects and edited in a way that drives the particularities of the action film genre to the point of absurdity. The resulting visual whirlwind thus deliberately escalates—and thereby diminishes—the dramatic impact of the original footage.

biography

Elen Řádová studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the early 1990s in the studios of Aleš Veselý, Michael Bielický, and Milan Knížák. She has presented her artistic work in many exhibitions, such as Women’s Homes (1992/1994). Under the moniker Babe LN, she became a part of the post-revolutionary dance scene, performed as a DJ, and since 2000 has been working for Radio 1.

Tomáš Mašín graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1993 and thus belongs to the first generation of students of the New Media Studio. After graduating, he worked on many multimedia projects, foreign music videos, commercials, and short films. He made his debut as a producer, writer, and director with the feature film 3 Seasons in Hell (2009).
