synopsis
Naoto Matsumara is the only person permanently residing around the Fukushima nuclear power plant where, in 2011, a major nuclear incident occurred. Matsumara decided to stay in this exclusion zone and now devotes his time to taking care of the abandoned animals. This observational documentary is a reflection on the disasters caused by man-made technology and on the environmental crisis and its consequences. The film is part of the We Have to Survive documentary project, which aims to draw attention to the current and future effects of the climate crisis.“That's mankind. biography
Director, screenwriter, and producer Tomáš Krupa (* 1983) graduated in documentary filmmaking from the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica and made his debut in 2012 with the film Graduates – Freedom Is Not for Free. In 2013, he founded the production company Hailstone, which focuses on independent documentaries. His international co-production The Good Death (2018) was shown at Ji.hlava and Berlinale IFF and is noted for winning the Czech Competition at One World IDFF (2019), the 2021 “Only the Best Award” for Best Documentary / Feature Film, and the 2020 “Sun in a Net Award” for Best Documentary Feature.more about film
