A group of men attempts to get an ox aboard a ship. A practical task turns into a tense scene involving the coordination of people, the animal and a confined space. The camera observes the loading process as a physical challenge, preserving both the effort involved and its unpredictability.

biography

Gabriel Veyre (1871–1936), a French pharmacist, photographer and cinematographer for the Lumière company, filmed in Mexico, the Caribbean, Japan, China and French Indochina. His films combine travelogue observation with staged scenes, while also revealing how early cinema shaped the European view of the world.
