28th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival
Oh, What a Struggle It Was
director: Pavel Koutecký
original title: Oj, to byl boj!
running time: 7 min.
synopsisWhat is the truth, and what is its colour, number and face? This is examined by edited slapstick on the eve of the first free elections in Czechoslovakia in 1990. In the orchestra of a newly post-totalitarian history, a new era is resounding. In a swarm of posters, slogans and proclamations, it is overlooked by a flock of people converging on the statue of Jan Hus with the executioner riding past in a red hood.
biographyPavel Koutecký (1956–2006), director, screenwriter and teacher, was one of the most important Czech documentary filmmakers. He collaborated with the Film and Sociology Association. He focused on time-lapse documentaries about the protagonists of the Velvet Revolution. After his tragic death during filming in 2007, the Pavel Koutecký Award began to be awarded.
