synopsisA Filipino dancer by day transforms into Liza Minnelli and Spiderman by night in the gay nightlife scene, where he pulls a 100-metre-long cord out of his rear end as he spins a spider web for a living. This first instalment in a trilogy of films about life under Ferdinand Marcos’ military regime shook the Filipino film community. It marks the beginning of a wave of documentaries on marginalized minority groups and the critical state of society.
biographyNick Deocampo (* 1959) is a filmmaker, historian, and educator. In the 1980s, he broached the taboo topic of homosexuality and thus became a pioneer of Philippine queer cinema. For over 30 years, he has made documentaries not only about sexual minorities, but also about military dictatorships, history, and the environment. He is currently a professor at the Film Department of the College of Mass Communication in the Philippines.
