Babash
Lisa Truttmann, Behrouz Rae / United States, Austria, Iran / 2014 / East European Premiere / 9 min.
synopsis
This “home video” from the life of a parrot named Babash consists of a stream of communication with his Iranian housemate Behrouz. Their languages of friendship are Persian, English, squawks, and a code involving color panels. The camera records details of the interior and the two protagonists’ interaction. It defines the space of the home/voliere, for which the outside world is a ray of light passing through the window onto the wall of the room.DETAIL:
With the yellow, Babash seems to laugh in the voiceover. Behrouz, too. A close-up of a photograph of women and children. The color panels in the room tell us, among other things, the extent to which human space overlaps with the bird’s territory.
