synopsis
Twist-Twist is constructed from static shots of the reflection of ships’ masts dancing on a surface of the sea to a musical rhythm. A black-and-white film with strong visuals and contrasts, it is unlike any of his other films: a simple, playful arabesque that was shot, developed and edited in a single day, without any other story or subject underlying it. Although it is often compared to his final cineclub film, Fluorescences (1967), as it makes a somewhat similar impression on the viewer, the two films are quite different. While Twist-Twist possesses the fresh approach of an emerging filmmaker, Fluorescences reveals the sum of his artistic and personal evolution in terms of both technique and subject matter.biography
Croatian artist Ante Verzotti (1942) studied camera at the Film and Television School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), from which he graduated in 1973. His first film, Twist-Twist, was screened at the 1963 Genre Film Festival in Zagreb. In 1967, the same festival awarded him for his entire opus of eight films. Besides film, Verzotti has also worked in photography since 1958. He has been an associate professor for photography, film and television at the UMAS Art Academy in Split since its founding in 1997. In 2009, the Croatian Union of Photographers awarded him the highest honorary title of the first order: Master of Photography (MF-HFS), the first such award in Croatia.more about film
