director: Jan Daňhel, Jakub Halousek
original title: Mokrá svatba
country: Czech Republic
year: 2017
running time: 24 min.

synopsis

Behind the curtain of the film strip the concreteness of images appears and disappears again with varying levels of visuals shifts and deformations. The sounds of the film’s movement mix with voices that give the scenes context but nevertheless prevent a reconstruction of the fable. – The story dissolves, and during this layering we move further away from it ever being one.

There Is Something Behind The Sound
This sound-generated animation gives the audible world an impressive visual form of moving geometric shapes or a starry sky. The Max For Live and Touch Designer visual programming languages turn an original soundtrack into space galaxies where the technical and the human, the earthly and the spiritual, and machines and poetry meet.

Fascinations: Exprmntl.cz - Out of competitionThe common denominator of the videos is the theme of therapeutic or relaxation exercise, the goal of which is to release mental and physical tension. In each of these works, however, a critical sting can be observed, honed by the frustrations of man in today’s world – whether they’re related to politics, interpersonal relations, or pressures at work. The transfer of these videos from a gallery context into a cinema changes the viewers’ experiences: the viewer is confronted with the images more urgently, they feel the tension building and releasing, and hence empathy with those observed. The series of videos was developed in cooperation with the Jindřich Chalupecký Society. Curated by Tereza Jindrová (Jindřich Chalupecký Society) as part of her research while organizing the exhibition Healing, dedicated to the topic of health in contemporary art.Prezentovaná díla:Migra jóga / Migra YogaCzech Republic, 2012, 10 min.Director: Markéta MagidováPrvotní promluva / Primal SpeechUnited States, 2016, 12min.Director: Liz Magic LaserNěkdy se cítí skoro šťastně / Sometimes They Almost Feel HappyCzech Republic, 2015, 9 min.Director: Barbora KleinhamplováSpolečně 2017 / Together 2017United Kingdom, 2017, 10 min.Directors: Lucy Beech & Edward ThomassonDvě minuty / Two MinutesCzech Republic, 2016, 6 min.Director: Jakub Jansa

Water Pure Azure
People’s limited view of the world often places the human perspective above the natural cycles. Visual details capture the egotism that often causes us to not see the essence of things, Together with an apt and uncompromising voiceover they call on us to become aware of the impact our actions have on our surroundings.

Apart
In her short, emotional film about life after the loss of a loved one, the author enthrallingly deals with a difficult topic, using techniques of both feature and animated film. Real experiences of the narrators, accompanied by an animated reconstruction of the painful situation, create a mournful insight into the thoughts of three young people untimely exposed to death.

WhereWhoYouMeAre
The filmmaker explores the principles of movement while dreaming, and constructs them outside of the world of dreams by inserting graphic elements into images from the real world and simulating the space of a computer game in the virtual world. As she passes through these fictional worlds, the main character takes on a real as well as animated form.

Dialogue
A dialogue between audio and video reinterprets a scene from the movie The Stranger (1967, dir. Luchino Visconti), in which the condemned debates with a priest about the absurdity of life, death, and the non-existence of God. The debate is abstracted by the skewed image as seen through cut glass and the meanings of their words take on a certain timelessness.

Broken Windows
This audiovisual collage places shots from Hitchcock’s Rear Window into paper set decoration, expanding the original movie’s ideas in a playful and provocative mode. As viewers, we must get through to the characters within a maze of colourful layers and alien objects that visualize the process of medialization and point out the framework limiting our view.

Traffic
A bustling scene somewhere between documentary, abstraction, and animation, based on a static view of the intersection of Adam Mickiewicz and Józef Piłsudski Streets in Warsaw, is transformed into an audiovisual jumble of noises, shapes, colors, and movement, among which we see pedestrians, cars, and public transport vehicles.

Operation Urban Warrior
Anthony Bird is a war veteran who was the sole survivor of a military operation in his unit. His memories are as surreal as the animation which simulates the course of the incident in the form of a computer game. Everything looks flat but we must trust our own sensees which tell us that in reality, the world isn't flat.

Unknown
The experimental film Unknown presents prototypical urban motifs, such as public transport and escalators, transforming them into abstract black and grey fragments using rotoscope animation to the accompaniment of authentic sounds. Using these scenes, the filmmaker is trying to evoke in the viewer the subjective feeling of alienation in the anonymous environment of a city.

Moréna Rex
The video and rap clip confronts contemporary feminism and capitalism. The sober environment of economic forecasts and cash flows is transformed into a psychedelic 3D animation depicting a witch session. The film culminates with the author’s rap that hyperbolically criticizes the power and role of money in today’s society.
