synopsis
Combining elements of science fi ction and poetry, the fi lm uses period documentaries to look at the question of Dutch colonialism within new contexts while digging deep into the history of this nation. The fi lm, which was awarded the 2019 Doc Alliance Selection Award, consciously aims for a deeper refl ection on the complicated nature of what we consider to be truebiography
Dutch artist Sabine Groenewegen draws inspiration for her work primarily from history, whose traces also form her primary research material. She is especially interested in how our ancestors’ decisions influence the present day and the future evolution of all of human society. In order to find the most fitting answers to her questions, she combines found footage with visually distinctive post-production work.more about film
