The intimate scenes, dominated by just two colors (grey and red) and shot using a slow zoom, are accompanied by the sounds of the city and barely audible dialogues.DETAIL:“I now remember my dream, daddy. You were at work. I was across the street. Helping some lady I think. I don't really know why. I don't remember. But I was afraid.”

Triangular Stories
A VHS installation from the realm of documentary film. The pair of home video recordings, both made in 1992, are shown on two separate monitors in order to provide an aestheticised trip back to the time when the reunified German was a fragile construct and young people succumbed to (self-)destruction. VHS technology, prefab housing estates, the former East Germany, the sharp rise in neo-Nazism, the spread of hard drugs. Replace East Germany with Czechoslovakia and you see the shared experiences of the post-communist states.

Amdo After Harvest
Footage of an ancient, often elemental ritual of the Tibetan community living on the far borders of China – a repeated encounter between people and the gods at harvest time. Into this tradition of sacred fire and ecstatic dancing seep modern signs and symbols such as iPods, fun fair balloons and children's t-shirt with pictures of Mickey Mouse. I pray as I walk when I spin the prayer wheel. Thick, grey smoke rises to the heavens and blood slowly drips down the forehead from the slit skin on the head. Even in traditional clothing, each generation unconsciously reveals its attributes.

First Feature
Saudi Arabian cinema only recently emerged from thirty-five years of being an underground phenomenon. Before it was legalized, Bentley Brown used his childhood home movie camera to record filmmakers working in the town of Jeddah.
